A Virginia mom is outraged after her daughter was mistakenly served alcohol at a local restaurant.

Last Friday night, Grace Dowell went to FishTails, located inside the Ramada Inn at the Oceanfront restaurant, for her 7-year-old daughters birthday. The restaurant was hosting a Harry Potter-themed event with potions you mix into a cauldron to drink, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, WGNTV.com reported.

Dowell ordered two non-alcoholic potion-making kits for her and her daughter and she she said when her daughter picked up a vial to smell and started gagging. She handed it to my husband and he smelled it and said, I think this is liquor,’ Dowell told WGNTV.

Rutvi Patel, the owner of FishTails, said the server immediately tried to fix her mistake. The manager was like, No if there isnt a sticker on it, no its not non-alcoholic,’ Patel said. And she was like, Oh, shoot, and she immediately put it back and gave them another non-alcoholic bottle.

Patel said the server most likely grabbed the wrong vial and was distraught after discovering the mistake. To make up for the error they offered a 20 percent discount on the meal, but Dowell asked to see the manager.

Dowell said while the server was very apologetic, the manager was not sympathetic enough for her liking. He did not react the way you would expect someone to react, Dowell said.

Patel tells a different story though, claiming the manager was trying to be helpful but was cut off by an angry table.

He was essentially like, Hi, can I know what the problem is? and thats all he got to say before someone at the table started screaming about how Im not paying a bloody dime of this and blah, blah, blah,’ Patel said.

The server offered to pay the $70 tab, which included the two potion kits and drinks for the adults, and the following morning Patel also refunded the Dowells their $25 reservation fee.

Dowell said she is contacting the ABC Board over the incident. FishTails said they are ensuring something like this does not occur again.

Were going to have them pre-portioned and in food storage bags, Patel said. Were going to seal them and have them stored. That way, when a non-alcoholic potion gets ordered, all they do is break the bag open, they put it on the tray and then they take it out.
