Netflixs recent documentary My Wife, My Abuser is a chilling documentary that delves into the life of a domestic abuse survivor who was based by his wife for 20 years.

Richard Spencer is the domestic abuse survivor that the doc focuses on. His wife Sherees brutal behavior was caught on film via a nanny cam. A potentially deadly situation that was caught on camera was a moment when Sheree threatened Richard with a knife. Sadly, Sherees threat went past her threat, lunging at him with the kitchen knife and giving him a 2cm cut below his knee.

All of the abuse that Richard suffered at the hands of Sheree in the documentary, which also happened in front of their children, has many Netflix viewers deeply disturbed.

According to The Sun, Richard and Sheree met at a club in 2000, and got married after nine years of dating in 2009. The abusive acts happened between 2016 and 2021. During authorities’ investigation of the abusive relationship, Richard gave police 43 images of bruises that were inflicted on him by Sheree. After Sheree admitted to “coercively controlling her husband,” she was sentenced to four years in jail in 2023.

On X, formerly Twitter, several have raged about My Wife, My Abuser greatly impacted them.

#mywifemyabuser on Netflix, genuinely can’t put into words the sheer heartbreak and disgust I feel. That poor man and his kids, one wrote on the social media platform. I feel physically sick. Domestic abuse is not a gendered crime! Anyone can be victims of it.

A second commented on X: My Wife, My Abuser is an absolutely brutal watch. The fact that evil, abusive c- -t only got sentenced to 4 years for 20 years of physical and emotional abuse is insane. She should rot for life in prison. You can’t retaliate someone that repulsive and cruel.

Another wrote: What a harrowing documentary. That woman is absolute scum and I hope her children never have to see her again. 4 years is ridiculously short sentence. I hope she is being treated like shit in prison. #mywifemyabuser.

Even more on social media felt heartache for the couples children having to witness such domestic violence.

This made me feel sick. The fact she was so vile to him was bad enough, but to do it front of the children, one questioned online.

Another noted, All those kids and the husband experienced horrors I cant comprehend.

Meanwhile, someone else insisted: I really hope they are doing well now and never have to see that monster again.
