Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance did not get much of a chance to play in Week 10, but he played enough to get a fairly hefty fine.
Lance received a $22,511 fine for unnecessary roughness as the NFL continues to crack down on the use of the helmet during games. The play in question involved Lance trying to knock Eagles safety Reed Blankenship out of bounds after Blankenship had recovered a fumble.
The NFL hands out a lot of fines of this nature on a weekly basis, some more blatant than others. This one seems particularly harsh on Lance, who was presumably just trying to knock Blankenship out of bounds without putting himself at too much risk physically.
Players have been fined by the league this year over plays in which they picked up concussions.
