Living legend Cher reveals just how toxic her relationship was with her ex-husband and former music partner Sonny Bono during their marriage.
The Grammy-winning songstress opens up in her new memoir, Cher: The Memoir, Part One, about Sonnys controling behavior, which was prominent at the pinnacle of their success on their 1970s show, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.

I saw how easy it would be to step over the edge and simply disappear, she explained, noting that she had considered ending her life five or six times.
The songstress expressed how upset she was that Sonny refused to allow her to wear perfume or even attend Tupperware parties. She also disliked how Sonny managed their career and finances so tightly. Even when she was a huge star on TV and hit songs like I Got You Babe, she didnt even have a bank account for herself.
Sonny and Cher taped two episodes of their TV show back-to-back and then flew back to Las Vegas to perform at two gigs at the Sahara Hotel in October 1972. All the while being parents to a toddler.
At the time, the Burlesque actress, who was only 98 pounds then, wanted to ask Sonny if he would go with their band to hear some live music.
Even though he never listened to any new music and wouldnt let me play it at home, Cher wrote, talking about the incident in her book. Cher ended up walking in on Sonny in a business meeting and heard him discussing how much money wed made, prompting her to say, Oh great, lets go to Europe.
However, Sonny was less inclined to make a trip to Europe.
Sonny looked at me with a frown and said, Why? You cant make any money in Europe,’ she stated in her memoir.
Cher clarified to Sonny that she meant to go to Europe for a trip, but he still wasnt open to the idea, instead he rolled his eyes and said, Cher, cmon.’
After that, he told her hed signed a new contract for the pair to perform in Vegas every summer for God knows how many years Cher had become so defeated about how all of the performing was affecting her and their child, she stepped barefoot on the balcony of our suite and stared down , the entertainer wrote.
