Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is cherishing every moment of raising her baby daughter, Aurora.

An Evening With Lifetime: Conversations On Controversies FYC Event For 'Murdaugh Murders: The Movie', 'Where Is Wendy Williams?' and 'The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard' held at The Lounge at Studio 10

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE ahead of the second season of her reality series Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup, the 33-year-old opened up about her journey as a new mom and how she’s embracing motherhood in a way she never experienced growing up.

Blanchard, who welcomed Aurora with her boyfriend Ken Urker in December, admitted she felt a sense of “relief” when she learned she was having a daughter.

“I kind of feel a little bit more relieved that we had a girl because I don’t know what to do with a little boy,” she said with a laugh. “I’m a girly girl myself, so all the pink and ruffles and stuff like that, that’s my area of expertise.”

Despite her difficult past, Blanchard is grateful for the opportunity to form a strong bond with her daughter.

“I think despite my relationship with my mom, there is something special about a mother and daughter’s relationship that I am so blessed to be able to live through with her because I didn’t have that with my own mom,” she shared. “It’s nice that I can just step into that role of a mother and see how it’s supposed to be.”

When asked if there was anything positive from her relationship with her late mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, that she could bring into her parenting, Gypsy-Rose admitted that her past still casts a shadow.

“My relationship with my mom does not come into my mind whenever I’m now a mom, and unfortunately, whenever it does, it’s negative,” she revealed.

“I haven’t even gotten to a point that I can honestly say there’s anything I could bring from my childhood to my relationship with my daughter. There’s nothing I can think of,” she added. “That’s sad, but that’s the honest answer.”

Blanchard has previously spoken about her commitment to breaking the cycle of her past. In a July YouTube video titled “I’m Pregnant, My Journey So Far,” she became emotional while discussing her hopes for motherhood.

“All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby,” she tearfully shared.

“I am a mother now, I am happy, and I just want to be a good mother for my child. I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”

As she navigates this new chapter of her life, Blanchard is determined to create a loving and supportive environment for Aurora, ensuring her daughter experiences the kind of unconditional love she longed for in her own childhood.

Season 2 of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup premieres Monday, March 10, at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
