Adopted from a shelter, Ellie is a sweet 5-year-old black and white cat who lives in Ontario, Canada with her owner, Vera Vertegaal . The young woman has always admired the gentleness of her little protégé.
“ Ellie has always been very delicate around small animals. She gets along very well with my pet ferret. She has never caught wild animals before. “She’s quite lazy and likes to sit on my porch ,” she told Newsweek .
An incredible maternal instinct
A few months ago, Vera filmed the little cat when she had just brought her a few days old rabbit. Ellie then led her mistress across the garden to the nest, so Vera could place the baby back with her siblings.
The nest had not been dug up, suggesting ” the baby was already out of the nest when Ellie found it .” The cat only wanted to help the little rabbit find its family.
Very proud of her ball of fur, the young woman couldn’t believe it. “ She didn’t even try to eat the rabbit or harm it in any way. She just sat and watched. “, she explains.
A viral and informative video
The video of this singular rescue was posted on Vera ‘s TikTok account and it quickly became a dazzling success. Today with more than 28 million views, the sequence has touched many Internet users amazed by so much kindness.
The video of the young Canadian also caused controversy and several users of the platform criticized Vera for having touched a wild animal: her foreign smell risked causing rejection in the little rabbit’s mother.
The young woman, however, wanted to reassure Internet users by specifying that the mother rabbit had returned to her nest and that all her babies were doing well.
Vera also assured that she wanted to leave the rabbit family alone and that the aim of her video was to ” simply spread information on how to help wild animals with as little disturbance as possible .”
