Despite being a loving and courageous kitty, Eddie, like many black cats, faces challenges in finding an adoptive family.
Although he is full of qualities, Eddie has been desperately waiting for a new family for more than 7 months. The kitty even became the longest resident of its shelter in Yorkshire (England). According to the volunteers who take care of this affectionate cat, the color of its coat is to blame…
After being found in a shed, Eddie , an adorable black cat of around 2 years old, was taken into the care of the RSPCA ( Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ). Welcomed in September 2022 at the Great Ayton shelter in the county of North Yorkshire ( England ) , the kitty waited many months before finding a forever home.
A “loving and easy-going” cat
As reported by the Mirror , Eddie was in bad shape when he arrived at the shelter. He suffered in particular from damage to his ears. Ulcerated, they were covered in painful plaques which required months of treatment. Now recovered, Eddie is ready to leave the shelter to enter a loving home.
“ His ears are now completely healed and he truly deserves to find his forever home after the health scares he has endured ,” says Beverley Dunn , cattery manager at Great Ayton RSPCA shelter
She also adds that Eddie is ” loving and easy to get along with .” According to her, “ he is a beautiful and affectionate boy who loves human company .”
Black fur: a handicap?
Despite its many qualities, the black cat does not attract the attention of visitors to the shelter. The reason according to the volunteers? The color of his coat.
According to Beverley Dunn , black cats or black and white cats are less popular than tabbies and ginger cats. According to her, they often stay longer than others in shelters.
“ The perfect family for Eddie is out there somewhere, ” Beverl
