Chicago police officer injured after being hit by car in Austin neighborhood late Saturday night: CPD

CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer suffered an ankle injury after being hit by a car late Saturday night in the Austin neighborhood on the city’s West Side.

According to police, officers patrolling on foot observed a large crowd in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue around 11:30 p.m. A 22-year-old in a gray sedan was then attempting to leave the area when he struck an officer, causing the officer to fall to the ground with an ankle injury.

Police say the car stopped and the driver was placed in custody. The officer was taken to an area hospital in good condition, while the driver was taken to an area hospital for observation in good condition.

Charges are pending, according to police, and Area Four detectives are investigating the incident.
