The Los Angeles Dodgers have opted to start international free agent addition Hyeseong Kim in Triple-A. They could make up for their miss in free agency by swinging a blockbuster trade.
Kim will eventually make his debut in the big leagues. He slashed just .207/.303/.310 in spring training. Kim was one of the most sought-after international free agents this offseason and his failure to make the opening day roster is not what the Dodgers were expecting. However, the Dodgers could still add a big-time contributor through trade. FanSided’s Zach Pressnell proposed this trade that would bring Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals to Los Angeles.
- Dodgers receive: third baseman Nolan Arenado and $25 million
- Cardinals receive: right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller
“This deal is simple. The Cardinals would send Arenado and $25 million to help pay for his deal to the Dodgers in exchange for former top prospect Bobby Miller,” wrote Pressnell. “The Cardinals reportedly don’t want to pay more than $20 million of Arenado’s contract in a trade. But in exchange for Miller, this might change.”
In 2019, Arenado signed an eight-year, $260 million deal with the Colorado Rockies before he was traded to the Cardinals. He is an eight-time All-Star, five-time Silver Slugger, 10-time Gold Glover and six-time Platinum Glover. He would instantly take over at third base. While Kim gets consistent at-bats in Triple-A he will continue to get better. Eventually when he makes his debut he, Arenado, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman could form the best infield in baseball.
