Tyler Lockett has been a reliable wide receiver in the league for a decade now. The veteran had an uncharacteristically down year in 2024, however, and was released by the Seattle Seahawks in a cost-cutting move. Now, the speedy receiver is looking to find a new team for the first time after spending 10 seasons in Seattle.
Cory Woodroof of For the Win recently predicted landing spots for the top remaining free agents. Lockett was included and Woodroof has the veteran reuniting with his former quarterback and head coach in Las Vegas.
Regarding Lockett’s fit with the Raiders, Woodroof offered the following:
Lockett can rejoin coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith in Las Vegas, as both know how dangerous Lockett can be, even at this point in his career.
In 2024, Lockett caught 49 passes for 600 yards and two touchdowns. It was the lowest catch and yardage totals for Lockett since the 2017 season when he only started in eight games.
Still, Lockett has been remarkably consistent for the majority of his NFL career. The Kansas State product made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2015 and has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark four times in his career.
In 2023, Lockett caught 79 passes for 894 yards and five touchdowns, proving the veteran isn’t far removed from being a useful weapon. Lockett has also remained healthy for the most part in his career, never playing in fewer than 15 games.
After a down year, heading to Vegas where he would have some familiarity might be the best choice. Lockett played under Pete Carroll for nine seasons and caught passes from Geno Smith while he was the starter there the past three years.
The Raiders could certainly use a player like Lockett. The team has an young, elite tight end in Brock Bowers and a solid veteran receiver in Jakobi Meyers, but not much else to write home about.
Currently, the Raiders have Ramel Keyton and Tre Tucker penciled in as starters on the depth chart, and that will need to change before the regular season kicks off. The team hasn’t added a receiver yet during the free agency period.
Spotrac projects Lockett to land a one-year deal worth $7.7 million on the free agent market. Over the Cap currently has the Raiders sitting at around $47 million in cap space, so spending money on Lockett is certainly plausible.
