Star Emma Watson said she stopped acting for the past 5 years because she felt constrained and unable to unleash her creativity.
According to Hollywood Reporter, on May 2, the Harry Potter actress talked about the reason for not acting for a long time: “Honestly, I was not happy. I felt like I was locked in a cage. The hardest thing was promoting content that I could not control. It was hard to be the representative and spokesperson for a product that I had no part in the production process.”
Watson added: “I was so limited that I felt uncomfortable because I had no voice. I realized that I only wanted to participate in projects that I had the right to decide. In other words, a project that didn’t make me feel bad about myself.” The British star has not acted since completing filming for the project Little Women in late 2018. In recent years, she has challenged herself in the roles of producer and director. Last winter, Watson wrote the script and directed a commercial for Prada. She also revealed that she is making a music video for a famous singer, but cannot reveal the identity.
Despite not appearing on screen for the past 5 years, Watson left open the opportunity to continue acting: “I’m willing to sit and wait for the right project. I love my job. I’m looking for a way to be true to myself. I don’t want to turn on the robot mode anymore.” Emma Watson was born in 1990, started acting at a young age with the role of Hermione in the Harry Potter series. After more than 10 years with the brand, she continued to make her mark in a number of films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) and Beauty and the Beast (2017).
