A Florida man got a terrible case of deja vu after he was bitten by a shark a decade after being bitten at the same beach.
Last Friday 28-year-old Cole Taschmanwas surfing with two friends at Bathtub Beach in Stuart when he was attacked by a shark, News4jax.com reported. As I was paddling against the current, my feet are behind me, they were laying flat on the board, and an about 8- or 9-foot either bull shark or tiger shark came up behind me and snatched my feet, Taschman said.
But this was not Taschman’s first shark attack. Amazingly enough when he was 16 years old in 2013 a blacktip reef shark bit his hand while surfing at the same beach. “Same beach, same exact rock, same place, same reef, same everything, Taschman said.
This time was more serious. Three tendons were completely torn and one was partially torn in the attack. After two surgeries the fishing charter captain was left with 93 stitches and about a dozen staples.
Taschman spent four days at the hospital before heading home to recover, and its possible he will need more surgeries in the future.
Taschmans girlfriend started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover medical bills. In addition, Ohana Surf Shop in Stuart is raffling off a surfboard or a fishing charter trip with 100% of the proceeds going to Taschman.
“He is a local captain loved in the community and won’t be able to work for 3 months to recover from his attack,” the fundraiser said. “He is currently wheelchair bound and has a long road to recovery. Please help him stay on his feet (no pun intended) and to cover medical costs.”
